Kerala Enforcement Directorate moves to cancel bail for accused in raid attack on officials

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a petition in the Kerala High Court seeking the cancellation of bail granted to Harish Kumar, the ninth accused in an assault on ED officials during a May raid on the rented residence of former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The bail was originally granted by the Thiruvananthapuram Sessions Court on June 24, and the ED argues that Kumar poses a flight risk and could obstruct the ongoing investigation.

In a separate filing before the Thiruvananthapuram District and Sessions Court, the ED alleged that the violent protest against its officers was part of a pre‑planned conspiracy engineered by the top leadership of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). The ED cited the presence of senior CPI(M) figures, including the state and district secretaries, and claimed that their rhetoric incited supporters to block and damage ED vehicles after the search operation. Around 300 people were implicated in the broader case, with several activists arrested.

Both petitions request the court to impose stricter conditions on the accused and underscore the agency’s intent to protect its officials and ensure the integrity of the money‑laundering probe involving the former chief minister’s daughter.
