Kerala government reviews reconstitution of State Waqf Board
The Kerala government is considering the dissolution and reconstitution of the State Waqf Board. Reports suggest the move follows an assessment that several current members may not meet eligibility criteria prescribed under existing rules. A reconstituted board would likely consist of 11 members, including two non-Muslim representatives, in alignment with amended Waqf laws and recent judicial observations.
Minority Welfare Minister N Samsudheen clarified that no formal decision has been reached regarding the dissolution. He stated that the administration is thoroughly reviewing legal and administrative aspects, including ongoing cases pending before the Kerala High Court and petitions filed in the Supreme Court challenging amendments to the Waqf Act. The Minister emphasized that the government will move forward only after examining all legal factors and judicial proceedings.
