Kerala High Court orders probe into mob attack on ED officials at former CM Pinarayi Vijayan's home

On May 27, Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers conducting a raid at the rented residence of former Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his daughter were attacked by a crowd of about 300 people. The mob pelted the officials' vehicles with stones, bricks, sticks and rods. The Kerala High Court sought a report on the incident, questioned the need for a CBI probe and directed the government pleader to file a report on actions taken, with the matter to be heard again next week.

Kerala police have begun evidence‑collection proceedings, bringing accused individuals to the house to reconstruct the attack. The court has also allowed the ED to continue its investigation into the CMRL‑Exalogic money‑laundering case, rejecting CMRL's challenge to an earlier order. The probe concerns alleged irregular financial transactions amounting to roughly ₹182 crore. The incident has sparked political controversy, with the former chief minister describing the raid as a "political vendetta" and opposition parties defending the investigation under the Prevention of Money‑Laundering Act.
