Kerala High Court suspends sentence for former DGP Tomin Thachankary

The Kerala High Court has suspended the four-year prison sentence of former Director General of Police (DGP) Tomin Thachankary in a disproportionate assets case. The decision follows an application filed by Thachankary seeking relief while his appeal against the conviction is pending.

Thachankary was previously sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹30.84 lakh by a Kottayam Vigilance Court on September 17. The case involved allegations that he accumulated assets worth over ₹64 lakh between 2003 and 2007, which exceeded his known income by approximately ₹30 lakh.

In his appeal, Thachankary has challenged the legality of the trial court's verdict, arguing that the prosecution relied on improper sanction orders. While the suspension provides immediate relief, it does not constitute an acquittal, and the High Court has yet to decide on the merits of his appeal.
