Kerala police investigate discovery of human remains in Bhavani River

Police in Palakkad, Kerala, have launched a murder investigation after human remains were discovered in three sacks along the banks of the Bhavani River in Attappadi. The sacks were found by cattle grazers near Cheerakkadavu on a Sunday afternoon.

Forensic examinations indicate the remains belong to a woman, estimated to be over 30 years old, and a young girl. The remains were found in varying states of decomposition, with officials suggesting the bodies may have been in the water for approximately five days. One sack contained the severed heads of the two victims, while another contained the body parts of the woman, who was reportedly found in a seated position.

Authorities noted that the advanced decomposition and lack of identifying clothing or ornaments have made immediate identification difficult. Preliminary assessments by police suggest the deceased are likely not members of the local tribal communities. Investigators are currently reviewing missing persons reports and checking for reports of missing migrant workers in the region to establish the identities of the victims.
