Kerala river discovery murder investigation
Overview
Police in Palakkad, Kerala, have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of human remains in three sacks along the banks of the Bhavani River in Attappadi. The remains, found by cattle grazers near Cheerakkadavu, consist of a woman estimated to be over 30 years old and a young girl.
Forensic examinations indicate the remains were in varying states of decomposition, suggesting the bodies may have been in the water for approximately five days. One sack contained the severed heads of the two victims, while another contained the body parts of the woman.
Due to advanced decomposition and a lack of identifying clothing or ornaments, immediate identification has proven difficult. Authorities noted that the deceased are likely not members of local tribal communities and are currently reviewing missing persons reports and checking for reports of missing migrant workers to establish identities.
