Kerala replaces prosecutor after bail controversy in ED officials attack case

Kerala's government removed District Government Pleader Geena Kumari from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials attack case after she failed to oppose bail for the ninth accused, Harish Kumar. Additional Government Pleader A. R. Shaji was assigned the district government pleader role, and former Government Pleader A. Santhosh Kumar was appointed as the new Special Public Prosecutor to handle the case.

The controversy stems from the Thiruvananthapuram Sessions Court granting bail to Harish Kumar on June 24, which the state home minister and the investigating officer said contradicted the government's stance. The ED alleges a broader conspiracy behind the attack on its officials and has asked the High Court to cancel the bail, resulting in a notice to the accused. The case also involves accusations of collusion and alleged involvement of senior political figures.

The changes aim to strengthen prosecution and address concerns that the earlier handling of the bail could impede the investigation into the alleged conspiracy behind the assault on ED officials.
