Kerekestelepi Thermal Bath bacteria confirmed not to cause cholera

The Hajdú-Bihar County Government Office has clarified that the Vibrio bacteria detected in one of the pools at the Kerekestelepi Thermal Bath do not cause cholera, as they do not produce toxins. However, authorities noted that the presence of the bacteria still poses health risks, such as ear infections or wound infections.

Following microbiological testing in August that revealed violations of water quality requirements in several pools, the facility was ordered to drain, mechanically clean, and disinfect the affected areas. The operator was also issued a fine, though the amount reflected that no illnesses resulting from the bathwater had occurred.

Subsequent laboratory tests conducted after the cleaning and disinfection measures were completed showed no further presence of Vibrio bacteria in the water.
