Kerman officials suspend plan to introduce non-subsidized gasoline

Authorities in Kerman, Iran, have halted a proposed plan to introduce non-subsidized gasoline at refinery costs. The plan initially aimed to offer gasoline at 87,200 Tomans per liter at 204 service stations, a rate significantly higher than current subsidized prices.

According to Ali Asghar Zakeri Herendi, the Deputy Governor of Kerman, the scheme was intended to supplement existing quotas. Under the proposal, residents would have maintained a 110-liter national quota, supplemented by a 40-liter provincial quota (distributed in two 20-liter stages) priced at 5,000 Tomans per liter. The 87,200 Toman rate was meant for consumption exceeding these quotas.

Following the announcement, the Governor of Kerman, Mohammad Ali Talebi, clarified via social media that no changes to gasoline prices have occurred. He stated that after discussions with national authorities regarding fuel consumption management and combating smuggling, the implementation of the refinery-rate pricing has been suspended until further notice. The National Petroleum Products Distribution Company for the Kerman region confirmed that fuel distribution will continue under the previous pricing structure.
