Kerry-Lynne Findlay elected leader of BC Conservative Party

Former federal MP and former Minister of National Revenue Kerry‑Lynne Findlay won the British Columbia Conservative Party leadership on May 30, 2026. The result was announced at the Rocky Mountaineer Station in Vancouver after a four‑round preferential ballot, with Findlay defeating conservative commentator Caroline Elliott by 51 % to 49 %.

Findlay said her victory reflects “a grand vision of fundamental change” and warned that “our homes, our individual rights, our properties are at stake.” She will need to win a byelection to sit as an MLA, and has hinted that her husband, Surrey South MLA Brent Chapman, may consider stepping down. Party membership surged from roughly 7,000 to about 42,000 during the race. Labour Minister Jennifer Whiteside labelled Findlay “extreme right” and criticised past remarks. Political analyst David Black described the win as a shift toward populism within the provincial right‑of‑centre movement. The new leader plans to meet with each BC Conservative MLA and outline her strategy for opposing the NDP government.
