Kevin Gausman discusses surprise trade ahead of Cubs playoff game

Chicago Cubs pitcher Kevin Gausman has spoken about his surprise trade from the Toronto Blue Jays at the MLB deadline. Gausman noted that while he was aware of interest in him, he did not expect to be the player moved to Chicago, especially after discussions with Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins suggested otherwise.

Gausman, who was traded for Brett Bateman and Ty Southisene, is currently pitching for the Cubs in a must-win Game 2 of the National League Wild Card Series against the San Diego Padres. The Cubs are facing elimination after an 8-0 loss in Game 1. Gausman has posted a 4.83 ERA in nine starts since joining Chicago.
