Kevin McStay proposes new Gaelic football rule trials

Kevin McStay, chairman of the Gaelic football Expert Advisory Group (EAG), has proposed several rule changes to address issues such as slow attacks and excessive lateral play. Despite the success of previous rule enhancements by the Football Review Committee, McStay noted that certain anomalies remain that could impact the spectator experience.

Proposed trials for these new rules will take place in the third-level Ryan Cup later this year. The experimental changes include the introduction of a four-point goal, prohibiting the fisted point, adding a sixth substitute, and restricting backcourt passes. The EAG aims to improve the ratio of footpasses to handpasses and increase high fielding to create a more dynamic spectacle.
