Kevin Smith details Star Wars and Marvel comic crossover

Writer Kevin Smith has shared details regarding the upcoming comic book miniseries ‘Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles’. Smith revealed that he approached the writing process with the rhythm and structure of a Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie in mind, despite the project being limited to a comic book format.

The crossover follows a premise where a reality-shattering spell brings characters from ‘A New Hope’—including Luke Skywalker, Leia, Han Solo, and Chewbacca—into contact with Marvel’s Earth-616 heroes. The story also features an alliance between Doctor Doom and Darth Vader.

Smith noted that while Marvel had reportedly sought such a crossover for years, Lucasfilm had previously declined. To manage the complexities of two highly protected franchises, Smith proposed limiting the scope of the crossover to characters originally introduced in the 1977 film. He was selected for the project by Marvel and Lucasfilm Publishing due to his familiarity with both universes.
