Kevin Volland retires, ends stint with TSV 1860 Munich

German former international striker Kevin Volland announced his retirement from professional football at age 33. The club TSV 1860 Munich confirmed the decision on 2 July 2026, noting that Volland had spent 16 years at the top level before joining the Regionalliga Bayern side. In a video interview he said the final weeks of the season were "a black Wednesday" with many negative things hitting him and the team, including a forced relegation that broke his enjoyment of the game.

Volland will not continue with the club in the upcoming season; instead he plans to play amateur football with his brother Robin for Bezirksliga team Thalhofen. He left the door open to a non‑playing role at TSV 1860 in the future, emphasizing the need for the club to rebuild its foundation and structure.

The player reflected, "When you see so many uncertainties and your gut tells you that the fun is gone, it becomes hard and adds no value for anyone."
