Keychron launches open‑source ZGM firmware and teases ultra‑light 30 g G6 HE mouse

Keychron announced a new open‑source firmware project called ZGM (Zephyr Gaming Mouse) built on the Zephyr RTOS and released under GPL‑3.0. The company said, "Open source isn't marketing for us. It's the default," and described the firmware as modular, low‑latency, and compatible with both wired and wireless configurations. The first mouse to ship with ZGM will be the G6 HE, slated for release in the first quarter of 2027.

In a separate teaser, Keychron showed a 30 g fingertip variant of the G6 HE. The design removes the back of the shell, relocates the battery forward and aims for a wireless weight of about 30 g (23 g in wired mode). Core specifications remain unchanged, including MagOptic switches, a PAW3955 sensor, 8K polling rate, tri‑mode connectivity and a removable battery. The company is gathering community feedback on additional features such as a pinky rest and asymmetrical shape before finalising tooling.
