Keychron open-source gaming mouse firmware

Overview

Keychron first announced that it would develop an open‑source firmware platform, Zephyr Gaming Mouse (ZGM), built on the Zephyr real‑time operating system and released under the GPL v3 license. The plan, revealed at the end of July 2026, said the firmware would debut on the company’s G6 HE gaming mouse in the first quarter of 2027 and emphasized transparency, modularity and low latency.

A few days later, Keychron confirmed the launch of the ZGM firmware and added a teaser for an ultra‑light 30 g version of the G6 HE mouse. The lightweight variant removes the rear shell and relocates the battery to reduce weight, while retaining the same core specifications such as MagOptic switches, a PAW3955 sensor, 8 kHz polling rate and tri‑mode connectivity. The company also invited community feedback on optional features before finalising production.
