KFC launches modern ‘Open House’ prototype in Texas

KFC has launched a new restaurant concept called ‘Open House’ in McKinney, Texas, serving as a live testing ground for the brand’s modernization efforts. The location aims to balance the chain’s 75-year heritage with contemporary consumer needs.

Designed with Art Deco and mid-century modern influences, the facility features large glass windows, digital ordering systems, and updated drive-thru technology. To maintain a human element, the restaurant includes lobby hosts, table service, booths, and outdoor seating. KFC US President Catherine Tan-Gillespie stated the philosophy is to be ‘digital where it’s helpful, but human where it matters.’

The menu retains core products like the original recipe while expanding into tenders, wings, sandwiches, wraps, and nuggets. The location is also testing new dayparts, such as breakfast, by operating from 6 a.m. to midnight to determine if these hours can be scaled nationally.
