Khadija Diab denies claims of detention by Sheikh Ahmad Gumi

Khadija Diab, a Moroccan national, has denied allegations made by her estranged husband, Nasiru Idris Musa, claiming she was being detained or held by Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi in Nigeria.

In a video shared via Gumi’s verified Facebook page, Diab stated that she returned to Morocco six months ago and is currently safe and enjoying her freedom with her family. She clarified that her relationship with Gumi began after her husband introduced her to the scholar, whom he viewed as a father figure. Diab noted that her mother had entrusted Gumi to act as her guardian and representative in Nigeria due to a lack of other support.

Bilkisu Abdulrasheed Chedi, counsel for the Women Aware of Rights Initiative, dismissed the claims of Diab’s detention as “false and unfounded.” Chedi explained that Diab returned to Morocco in April 2026 after the organization assisted her in obtaining an emergency travel document following allegations that her husband had seized her international passport.

Legal proceedings were initiated at the Area Sharia Court in Kaduna following Diab’s October 2025 reports of domestic abuse, inadequate maintenance, and physical and emotional mistreatment. Diab has expressed her desire to end the marriage, citing the alleged abuse.
