Khadija Diab domestic abuse and legal dispute

The situation involves legal and personal disputes surrounding Khadija Diab, a Moroccan national, and allegations of domestic abuse involving her husband, Nasiru Idris Musa, in Nigeria.

Initially, Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi addressed the legal avenues available under Islamic law for women in abusive marriages, including judicial annulment and mutual consent divorce. During this period, legal counsel Bilkisu Abdulrasheed Chedi of the Women Aware of Rights Initiative denied claims that Diab was staying with Gumi, noting that Diab had fled to Morocco in April following allegations of abuse and inadequate maintenance.

Subsequently, Diab released a video via Gumi’s Facebook page to deny allegations made by her estranged husband that she was being detained by the scholar. Diab stated she returned to Morocco six months prior and is safe with her family. She clarified that Gumi had been acting as a guardian in Nigeria at her mother’s request. Legal counsel Chedi reiterated that the claims of detention were “false and unfounded,” noting that Diab’s legal proceedings regarding her marital situation were being handled at the Area Sharia Court in Kaduna.
