Khasi Students’ Union issues legal notice to Shillong police
The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has issued a legal notice to two police officers in Shillong following a hit-and-run incident on September 18 near the Samkhamti Petrol Pump in Urkaliar.
The incident occurred when two individuals on a scooter allegedly attempted to evade a police checkpoint, striking and injuring the Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) for East Khasi Hills, Lovish Garg. Following the arrest of the suspects, media reports cited police statements linking the individuals to the KSU.
The KSU has demanded a public written clarification and apology, stating there is no legally admissible evidence to prove the suspects are members of the union. The union's Information & Publicity Secretary, Pynshai Kupar M. Dkhar, stated that linking the organization to a criminal act without verification is defamatory and damaging to its reputation. The KSU has provided a 15-day deadline for a response before initiating further criminal defamation proceedings.
