Kherson children receive first aid training amid Ukraine conflict
In the city of Kherson, children as young as eight are participating in first aid training to learn how to treat gunshot wounds and manage bleeding. Conducted in a basement to protect participants from aerial attacks, the sessions are led by Marc Friedrich, founder of the aid organization Ambulance for Kids, and his Ukrainian colleague Roman Poliichuk, alongside paramedics from the local group Silni bo Vilni.
Unicef reports that the ongoing conflict has left hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian children exhausted and traumatized. Since the Russian invasion began in February 2022, Unicef has registered at least 3,900 killed or injured children, though the actual figure is believed to be higher. The organization notes that children face constant fear and that regular school attendance is often impossible, particularly in frontline cities and villages where the danger is most acute.
