Impact of conflict on Ukrainian children
Overview
In Kherson, children as young as eight have begun receiving first aid training, such as managing bleeding and gunshot wounds, in basement sessions led by the organization Ambulance for Kids and local paramedics. This initiative addresses the trauma and physical dangers faced by children in frontline areas, where Unicef has noted significant casualties and constant fear.
As the conflict continues, the Ukrainian government has established five boarding schools specifically for the children of fallen or wounded soldiers. These facilities provide grief counseling while also serving as training grounds to prepare students for future roles in the military or security services.
Concurrently, Norway has increased humanitarian aid to address the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia. Norway is providing 15 million NOK to UNICEF for the reintegration of returned children and 10 million NOK to the International Committee of the Red Cross to assist in tracing missing individuals.
