Khmer culture and Thak Con Festival showcased in Hanoi

The Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism hosted a cultural program titled ‘Returning to the West through the Culture of the Khmer People’ to showcase the traditions of the Khmer community from Can Tho.

A major highlight of the event was the reenactment of the Thak Con Festival (Coconut Offering Festival), which was recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage on June 3, 2025. The reenactment included traditional rituals such as the Krong Pali ceremony, Dak Bath (offering food to monks), and the Sla Tho coconut offering to pray for peace and prosperity. The program also featured traditional music, including ngũ âm and Sa dăm drums, alongside folk dances like the Rom Vong.

In addition to the religious ceremonies, the event offered visitors an immersive experience of Western Vietnamese culture through traditional cuisine. Artisans demonstrated the preparation of local specialties such as bánh xèo, bánh lá, and cốm dẹp, accompanied by musical performances reflecting the riverine lifestyle of the Mekong Delta.
