Overview

Vietnam continues to engage in domestic and international initiatives to promote and preserve its cultural heritage.

In Hanoi, preparations are ongoing for the 2026 World Cultural Festival to foster international exchange and promote cultural industries. Domestic preservation efforts include the Oc Eo civilization at Chot Mat Tower in Tay Ninh province and the revitalization of ‘to he’, a traditional rice paste toy craft led by artisan Dang Van Hau. Internationally, the ‘Soul of Vietnam Festival’ returned to Victoria, Canada, for its second year, showcasing Vietnamese cuisine, fashion, and performances to over 2,000 attendees.

Regional festivals are also being held to celebrate local traditions. In Sa Pa, the 2026 Autumn Festival opened on August 23, marking the 81st anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, as well as the 12th Economic Corridor Cooperation Conference. In Tu Le, the ‘Huong sac mua Thu Tu Le’ Green Rice Festival commenced on August 23, highlighting the Tan sticky rice harvest through traditional activities like green rice pounding and folk games. Additionally, the first Sin Cheng Golden Season Festival opened on August 15 to showcase highland culture, while in Ho Chi Minh City, Saigontourist Group launched its 20th annual Mid-Autumn Festival celebration in Can Gio.

Furthering ethnic cultural showcases, the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism hosted ‘Returning to the West through the Culture of the Khmer People’ to highlight traditions from the Can Tho community. The program featured a reenactment of the Thak Con Festival (Coconut Offering Festival), which was recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage on June 3, 2025. The event included rituals such as the Krong Pali ceremony and Sla Tho coconut offerings, alongside traditional music, folk dances, and demonstrations of Mekong Delta cuisine.
