Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor House set on fire amid political unrest

The Governor House in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province was set on fire amid escalating political tensions and a deteriorating security situation. The arson occurred following the federal government's imposition of a state of emergency in the province, which suspends the provincial government led by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.

Large-scale protests erupted across KP as the federal government moved to take control of the provincial administration. The security crackdown included the arrest of numerous PTI workers in Swabi and Khyber districts, as well as the detention of ousted Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and PTI provincial president Junaid Akbar. Additionally, former chief minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur reported being placed under house arrest in Dera Ismail Khan.

In response to the unrest, security personnel were deployed at major intersections and highways, while mobile phone and internet services were suspended in certain areas like Swabi. Reports indicated police used firing and shelling in various cities across the province as tensions rose.
