Khyber Pakhtunkhwa political crisis prompts high-level meeting between PM and President
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari are expected to hold a high-level meeting to discuss the political, constitutional, and security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The discussions will focus on potential constitutional measures, including the possibility of imposing governor rule or an emergency in the province.
The meeting follows the failure of negotiations between the federal government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and comes amid concerns regarding a potential long march. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has stated that the security situation in the province is unsatisfactory and noted a lack of cooperation from the provincial government toward the federal authorities.
Additionally, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with Governor Kundi in Peshawar to discuss security and the ongoing long march. Officials indicated that if the President and Prime Minister deem it necessary to protect the province from terrorism and unrest, the Governor House is prepared to fulfill its constitutional role.
