Kia Niro hybrid SUV receives mid-cycle refresh and posts up to 27.2 km/l city fuel economy

Kia has rolled out a mid‑cycle update for the Niro SUV in Spain, replacing the plug‑in and fully electric versions with a single conventional hybrid powertrain. The refreshed model uses a 1.6 L GDI engine paired with a 43.5 hp electric motor, delivering 138 hp total and a 1.32 kWh lithium‑ion battery. Exterior styling is now closer to Kia’s EV range, and interior tweaks follow the same design language. Kia aims to sell around 70,000 units in Spain by 2026, hoping hybrids will account for roughly one‑third of all new‑car registrations.

In Brazil, the Kia Niro HEV is marketed with official fuel‑economy figures of 27.2 km/l in city driving and 24.6 km/l on the highway. With a 42‑liter fuel tank, the theoretical range exceeds 1,100 km under optimal conditions. The hybrid system combines the gasoline engine, electric motor and regenerative braking to achieve the high urban efficiency, positioning the Niro as a low‑cost‑of‑ownership alternative to conventional flex‑fuel SUVs.
