European alternative-fuel vehicle launches – September 2026
Overview
Hyundai has officially opened orders for the IONIQ 3, a compact electric hatchback designed for the European market. Developed in Rüsselsheim, Germany, the vehicle is manufactured at the İzmit plant in Turkey to maintain competitive pricing against European and Chinese rivals.
The IONIQ 3 utilizes the E-GMP platform with a 400V architecture and features an ‘Aero Hatch’ design with a drag coefficient of 0.263. It is offered in two battery configurations: a 42.2 kWh standard range battery providing up to 344 km of range, and a 61 kWh long-range battery offering up to 497 km (WLTP).
Technological features include the Pleos Connect infotainment system, based on Android Automotive OS, with central touchscreens ranging from 12.9 to 14.6 inches. The vehicle includes an integrated EV route planner and Memory Reverse Assist. Available trim levels include Select, Trend, Prime, Advance, Premium, and Ultimate, alongside sportier N Line and N Line Evo variants.
As previously noted, Hyundai has implemented a cost-management strategy where the driver’s instrument cluster is an optional extra. In certain entry-level configurations, the traditional 9.9-inch digital display is absent, requiring drivers to rely on the central Pleos Connect multimedia screen for essential information such as vehicle speed and autonomy data.
