Kid Cudi to star in new Jean-Michel Basquiat biopic

Rapper Kid Cudi has announced he is working on ‘Jean’, a new biographical film centered on the life of artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. This project follows an estate-approved documentary scheduled for release on Netflix in December.

While the new project aims to explore the New York artist's legacy, observers note the enduring impact of the 1996 film ‘Basquiat’, directed by artist and contemporary Julian Schnabel. That original biopic, featuring Jeffrey Wright, is noted for its authentic, layered portrayal of Basquiat’s rapid ascent from the New York underground scene to the heights of the fine art market, including his relationships with figures like Andy Warhol and René Ricard.
