Jenss Lara kidnapping in Trujillo reveals planned attack by ‘Los Pulpos’

Mining entrepreneur Jenss Lara Tantaquilla was kidnapped in Trujillo, Peru, during an armed attack that resulted in the deaths of four people: his partner Nadia Urtecho, Farah Monzón, Christopher García, and security agent Luis Rojas.

Lara reported that he initially mistook the kidnappers for police officers because he was under the influence of alcohol and disoriented. He was held captive for approximately 36 hours in a specialized underground chamber featuring a reinforced steel door with a digital keypad. Police discovered the site in the San Isidro neighborhood, finding supplies such as water, mattresses, and oxygen tanks used during his confinement.

Alexander Mendocilla Gómez, an alleged lieutenant of the criminal group ‘Los Pulpos’, has provided testimony to authorities. Mendocilla claimed the operation was planned for a month and involved using GPS tracking to monitor the victim's movements. He further revealed that Lara was not the original target, but rather the brother of the intended victim, suggesting the kidnapping may have resulted from a change in plans or a mistake.
