Kielce launches climate‑adaptation parks and temporary roundabout

Kielce city officials are advancing a climate‑adaptation project for Skwer Szarych Szeregów. The plan includes rain gardens with temporary water‑retention tanks, permeable paving for sidewalks, bike paths and roads, and riverbank renaturation using water‑absorbing plants. Additional work will revitalize a pond in the municipal forest near the stadium and improve biodiversity. The total cost is estimated at over 32 million zł, with more than 20 million zł expected from the national FENiKS programme.

At the same time, a temporary roundabout will replace traffic lights at the intersection of Tarnowska, Bohaterów Warszawy and Seminaryjna streets until the end of the summer. The change supports construction of a new bike lane along Szczecińska street and narrows vehicle lanes to a single lane, while preserving bus access and a right‑turn bypass. The project costs more than 4.7 million zł, funded by the European Regional Development Fund for the Świętokrzyskie region.
