Kiev hit by missile attack as European defense coalition meets in Paris

A series of explosions was heard shortly after midnight on 14 July 2026 in Kyiv after the Ukrainian air force warned that multiple missiles were approaching. Air‑defence systems engaged the incoming threat and mayor Vitali Klitschko reported on Telegram that “the enemy is attacking Kyiv with ballistic missiles”. Six explosions were recorded and fires broke out in the Holosiivsky district in the city’s south.

The raid coincided with a meeting in Paris of the “volunteer coalition” of nine European countries, which pledged to increase aid to Ukraine and to create a purely defensive alliance to develop anti‑ballistic‑missile capabilities. President Volodymyr Zelensky called the day “historic” and reiterated calls for more air‑defence systems. Since June, Kyiv has faced a surge of ballistic and hypersonic missile strikes, and a previous large bombing on the night of 1‑2 July killed 30 people.
