Kimi Antonelli’s Silverstone disappointment and Miami pole underline rising Mercedes star

The issue required a pit stop and a subsequent five‑second penalty for exceeding track limits, leaving him scoreless and reducing his championship lead. Antonelli said the setback was painful but maintained that the team showed speed and potential.

George Russell of Mercedes acknowledged Antonelli’s superior form, confirming a 25‑point gap in the drivers’ standings after the Silverstone round and describing it as a fair reflection of performance. Russell also noted his own challenges, including a late‑race puncture that limited his finish.

Earlier in the season, Antonelli had captured attention with five consecutive victories and, most recently, secured pole position at the Miami Grand Prix, beating Max Verstappen in changing weather conditions. The pole highlighted his ability to manage pressure and adapt to shifting track conditions.
