Kimi Antonelli leads 2026 F1 championship standings

Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli is leading the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship following the summer break. The 19-year-old Italian holds a 50-point advantage over Lewis Hamilton and a 59-point lead over teammate George Russell.

Antonelli is currently in a position to potentially become the youngest world champion in F1 history, aiming to surpass Sebastian Vettel’s record. A title win would also end a 73-year drought for Italy, with the last Italian champion being Alberto Ascari in 1953.

Mercedes deputy team principal Bradley Lord noted that while the team believed in Antonelli’s potential, his rapid development and maturity in his second season have been incredibly impressive. The team previously took a cautious approach to his debut in 2025 to avoid overwhelming him. However, Mercedes principal Toto Wolff has remained cautious regarding the title race, citing technical challenges and reliability issues that have impacted the team's performance throughout the season.
