Kimi Antonelli leads F1 championship after Japanese GP win

Kimi Antonelli has established himself as a dominant force in the 2026 Formula 1 season. Following his victory at the Japanese Grand Prix, the 19-year-old Mercedes driver became the youngest leader in the history of the drivers' championship.

Antonelli's recent performances include a win in Japan after securing pole position, and a podium finish in Hungary despite a grid penalty. His success has propelled Mercedes to the front of the constructors' championship, ahead of Ferrari.

Fellow competitors have offered high praise for the young driver. Race winner Lando Norris described Antonelli as a ‘complete package’ who has been convincingly beating his teammate. Reigning champion Max Verstappen also commended Antonelli’s maturity, noting that the driver has been ‘rock solid’ throughout the season.
