Kimi Antonelli secures second in Sepang, extending F1 championship lead

Kimi Antonelli secured second place at the Bahrain Grand Prix held in Sepang, further strengthening his lead in the Formula 1 championship. The Mercedes driver currently holds an 84-point advantage over teammate George Russell and a 106-point lead over Lewis Hamilton.

During the race, Antonelli initially led after a strong start on intermediate tires. However, following a safety car restart, Max Verstappen utilized his experience to overtake Antonelli on a slippery track using slick tires. Antonelli expressed frustration at being overtaken but praised Verstappen’s ability to manage grip and car positioning during the restart.

While the result is positive for Antonelli, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff expressed caution regarding the team's reliability. Following George Russell's retirement due to power unit issues, Wolff emphasized that the team cannot afford further mechanical failures as they look toward upcoming races in Austin and Singapore.
