Monza Grand Prix: Antonelli faces grid penalty at home race
The Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix at Monza features a high-stakes weekend for championship leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli. Despite leading the standings, the Mercedes driver will start from the back of the grid due to a planned power unit replacement. Antonelli has expressed a strategy of “total attack” to recover positions, noting that Monza’s long straights provide ample overtaking opportunities.
Mercedes driver George Russell has identified McLaren as the team to beat currently, though he anticipates a four-team battle involving Ferrari and Red Bull. Ferrari is also introducing upgrades and new power units for drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton at their home race. Additionally, Scuderia Ferrari will debut a special livery for the SF-26 car to honor Michael Schumacher, marking 30 years since he joined the team.
Off-track, Antonelli celebrated his 20th birthday in the paddock with various tributes, including a custom pizza from the social project PizzAut and a special helmet inspired by Valentino Rossi. The race weekend includes practice sessions starting Friday, qualifying on Saturday, and the main Grand Prix on Sunday.
