King County issues Stage 1 burn ban, bans fireworks in unincorporated areas

Fire Marshal Eric Urban of King County announced a Stage 1 burn ban for unincorporated areas that will take effect at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, June 22. The ban prohibits yard‑debris fires and land‑clearing burns, while allowing recreational grills and campfires that meet specific safety requirements, such as using seasoned firewood, metal or concrete fire pits, and keeping flames no larger than three feet wide.

Urban also reminded residents that consumer fireworks are prohibited throughout unincorporated King County, including White Center, Skyway, East Federal Way, Fairwood and the East Renton area. Enforcement will be handled by the county’s Code Enforcement team. “With the World Cup coming to King County, along with America’s 250th birthday on July 4th, we know this is going to be a busy and active summer,” Urban said, urging the public to follow the ban and avoid fire hazards amid predicted above‑average temperatures and dry conditions.
