King County Metro to launch on-demand transit pilots in Auburn and Federal Way

King County Metro is launching two new Metro Flex pilot programs in Auburn and Federal Way starting August 31. This on-demand neighborhood transit service is part of the South Link Connections project aimed at improving transit in South King County.

The service utilizes Metro-operated minivans to provide connections between residential neighborhoods, transit hubs, jobs, and other destinations. Riders can book trips via a dedicated app or by phone. The pilot programs are scheduled to run for two years.

Rides are priced at $3, matching standard Metro bus fares, with free transfers to buses or Link light rail. Reduced fares are available for seniors, individuals with disabilities, and low-income customers, while riders aged 18 and younger ride for free. The service will connect residents to regional networks, including the Federal Way Transit Center and Auburn Station.
