Kinsey Institute study identifies economic drivers of Gen Z sexual recession
A study conducted by the Kinsey Institute, supported by Playboy and Julie, has provided data regarding a perceived “sexual recession” among Generation Z. Surveying 2,373 young adults aged 18 to 29, the research indicates that 29% of respondents had no sexual partner in the last three months, while 19% reported having never had one.
The data suggests that the decline is not due to a lack of interest; 74% of single participants reported moderate to very high sexual desire. Instead, economic and social factors appear to be primary drivers. Approximately 43% of respondents stated that economic concerns make dating difficult, and 37% believe financial stress negatively impacts their sexual lives.
In Spain, housing challenges further exacerbate the issue. According to INE data, 67.1% of young people aged 18 to 34 live with their parents, often due to lack of resources. Among those living with parents, 64% reported going at least three months without sexual relations. Additionally, 28% of respondents noted that time spent on mobile devices reduces their motivation to seek relationships.
