Congo-Brazzaville: Regional developments in civic education, refugee returns, and financial crime

In the Republic of the Congo, several key social and administrative initiatives are underway. Celand Chancel Loembet, president of the Cercle des jeunes dynamiques (Acid), met with the Minister of Youth and Education to present two civic engagement projects, including ‘Les Gardiens du civisme’, aimed at teaching values such as patriotism and discipline to youth.

In Kintélé, a tripartite commission involving the Congolese government, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and the UNHCR is addressing the voluntary return of Congolese refugees from the DRC. Discussions focus on ensuring sustainable reintegration through access to healthcare, education, land, and employment to prevent unstable or forced displacements.

Additionally, a regional seminar in Libreville is training investigators and magistrates from Central African francophone countries on combating financial crimes involving cryptocurrencies and the darknet. The training emphasizes blockchain traceability and cross-border cooperation to track illicit funds.
