Kiphire district leaders appeal for peace amid Yimkhiung-Tikhir tension

Community leaders and local authorities in Nagaland's Kiphire district are calling for peace and dialogue following an escalation of tension between the Yimkhiung and Tikhir communities. On October 15, a joint goodwill mission led by the Kiphire District GBs’ Association and the Eastern Sumi GBs’ Union visited several affected areas, including Pokhpur, Zaonger Longtsonger, Pungro, and Kiusam town, to urge restraint and mutual understanding.

The mission met with village authorities, tribal councils, and church leaders to promote unity and prevent further provocation. The delegation has appealed to the state government to intervene, ensure resident safety, and facilitate formal peace talks. There is also an urgent call for financial and material assistance to support displaced families who have lost homes and essential items, such as school uniforms and academic supplies.

In a separate meeting, the Kiphire District Planning and Development Board condemned the recent violence and emphasized that a lasting solution requires both communities to engage in dialogue. Deputy Commissioner Temsuwati Longkumer reported that while the situation is currently under control, officials must prioritize the security and rehabilitation of those affected by the incidents in Pungro and surrounding villages.
