Kirchner family faces trial for alleged money laundering

The judicial process regarding the Hotesur and Los Sauces cases is entering a decisive stage in Argentina. The trials investigate whether an illicit association existed between government officials and businessmen to funnel state funds into businesses owned by the Kirchner family.

Former President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and her son, Deputy Máximo Kirchner, are among the 19 defendants. The prosecution alleges the family used hotels and a real estate company to launder money through clients such as Lázaro Báez and Cristóbal López. The Los Sauces trial is scheduled to begin on October 23, while the Hotesur trial is set for March 19, 2027.

Although the Federal Oral Tribunal No. 5 previously decided to split the proceedings into two successive trials, prosecutors Diego Velasco and Mario Villar have requested that the Chamber of Cassation unify them into a single trial to better demonstrate the alleged laundering network. The judicial process involves more than 300 witnesses.
