Kirk Franklin releases first double album I Am What I Am
Gospel music icon Kirk Franklin has released his first-ever double album, titled ‘I Am What I Am’. The project is divided into two distinct musical experiences: seven tracks recorded live in a church setting and seven studio tracks featuring collaborations with secular artists such as GloRilla and Tobe Nwigwe.
Reflecting on a career spanning over 30 years since his 1993 debut, Franklin discussed his commitment to traditional Black gospel sounds, including choirs and Hammond organs, despite shifting worship trends. He addressed past criticisms regarding his sincerity and style, stating that he no longer seeks to win over critics, asserting, “Whatever you think of me, whatever your view is, good, bad, or ugly, I am what I am.”
Franklin also shared personal insights on faith, forgiveness, and spiritual mentorship, noting that while forgiveness is a commandment, trust must be earned on its own timeline.
