Kishtwar teacher arrested after minor student dies during medical transit

A school teacher and his brother have been arrested in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir following the death of a minor student. The victim, a young girl enrolled in Class 4 or 5 at a government middle school in the Chatroo area, died while being transported to a hospital for medical intervention related to a pregnancy.

According to reports, the girl’s condition deteriorated while being moved from Kishtwar to Doda, and finally toward Jammu. She passed away near the Batote area while en route to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu.

Police have registered an FIR under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The accused teacher, identified as Khalid Hussain, has been suspended by the Chief Education Officer. The incident has triggered widespread outrage and protests across the Kishtwar district, including a complete shutdown in the Chatroo area, as residents demand strict legal action.
