Kisoro businessman and wife shot dead in late-night attack

A prominent businessman, Africano Nteziyaremye, and his wife, Peace Kyompeire, were shot dead by unidentified assailants in Kisoro Municipality, Uganda, on the night of October 17, 2026.

The attack occurred around 11:00 PM at the gate of their residence in Zindiro Village as the couple was returning from their wholesale business in Kisoro Town in a pickup truck. Witnesses reported that attackers on a motorcycle opened fire on the vehicle. Both victims died at the scene.

Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Nelson Tumushime stated that detectives and a canine unit have examined the scene for evidence. While no arrests have been made, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and police have been deployed to the area to track the suspects. Local officials described Nteziyaremye as a generous community member who frequently supported local events and the needy.

The incident follows a pattern of violence targeting the business community in the Kisoro District, including previous robberies and shootings involving traders and shop attendants.
