Kithure Kindiki endorsed as Mount Kenya spokesperson by regional elders

Mount Kenya elders have officially endorsed Deputy President Kithure Kindiki as the spokesperson and representative for the region. During an assembly at Kirigiti Stadium in Kiambu County on September 19, 2026, representatives from several groups, including Kiama Kia Ma, the Kikuyu Council of Elders, and Njuri Ncheke, signed a declaration mandating Kindiki to advance the interests and aspirations of the Agikuyu, Ameru, Aembu, and Ambeere communities.

The elders emphasized their role as custodians of community wisdom and peace-builders, warning that ethnic differences and political divisions could threaten social cohesion and economic prosperity. They expressed a commitment to preserving unity among the regional communities.

In a separate engagement in Meru County, Deputy President Kindiki stated he would remain focused on national development projects alongside President William Ruto rather than engaging with political detractors. While inspecting infrastructure projects in Igembe South, including hospital upgrades and market constructions, Kindiki noted he has forgiven local leaders who have criticized him, asserting that his priority remains delivering essential services such as roads, water, and healthcare.
