Kithure Kindiki advances development projects and regional unity efforts

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is intensifying development inspections and political engagement across Kenya, specifically within the Mount Kenya region. He has emphasized the government's commitment to the Kenya Kwanza manifesto, highlighting multi-billion shilling projects including roads, stadiums, and markets in Murang’a and Meru counties. In Meru, Kindiki noted a Sh39 billion development programme aimed at transforming Meru town into a city.

Politically, Kindiki is responding to endorsements from Mount Kenya elders, who have named him as a regional spokesperson to foster unity among the Gikuyu, Embu, Meru, and Mbeere communities ahead of the 2027 elections. He has urged political rivals to respect the elders' calls for cohesion and to focus on development rather than division.

On the industrial front, preparations are finalized for the launch of the $17 billion East Africa Refinery Project in Lamu. Scheduled for late September 2026, this collaborative venture between the Kenyan government and the Dangote Group is expected to process approximately 220,000 barrels of oil per day. The project, situated within the LAPSSET corridor, aims to enhance regional energy security and stimulate industrial growth in Kenya's northern and coastal regions.
