Kitui police uncover Sh60 million bhang plantation
Security officers have uncovered a three-acre bhang plantation in Mwingi Central, Kitui County, with an estimated street value of Sh60 million. The discovery occurred during an intelligence-led operation along the Tana River in the Kiomo Kyethani Ward.
The illicit crop was reportedly interspersed among various food crops in a remote river delta in Kakongo Village to avoid detection. During the raid, which involved the National Police Service (NPS) and National Government Administration Officers (NGAO), authorities seized approximately 2,000 kilograms of mature bhang.
In addition to the narcotics, officers recovered various cultivation tools and equipment, including solar panels, weighing scales, petrol-operated water-pump generators, and fertilizer. While personal documents belonging to the cultivators were found at the site, the suspects managed to escape. Investigations are ongoing by the National Anti-Narcotics Investigations Bureau (NANIB) to apprehend those responsible.
