Narcotics seizures in Kenya
Overview
Law enforcement in Kenya has conducted separate operations resulting in significant seizures of cannabis, locally referred to as bhang.
In Kitui County, an intelligence-led operation in Mwingi Central uncovered a three-acre plantation in a remote river delta. Authorities seized approximately 2,000 kilograms of mature bhang, valued at an estimated Sh60 million, along with cultivation equipment such as solar panels and water-pump generators. While personal documents were recovered, the suspects escaped.
In Nakuru, police recovered 241.5 kilograms of bhang, valued at approximately Sh7.2 million, following a vehicle collision on the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway. The narcotics were discovered in a Mazda CX-5 after it collided with a trailer. The driver fled the scene, and the National Anti-Narcotics Investigations Bureau has launched a manhunt to determine the source and destination of the drugs.
